heels and bum

Does wearing high heels tone your glutes and bum?

peach-tips , June 7, 2020

Okay ladies, its time to put an age-old question to rest once and for all – does wearing high heels improve the appearance of the glutes and bum? Now, you might be a heel fanatic, wearing sky-highs any chance you get, in love with the way they make your legs look longer and your booty look luscious. Or, you might feel like high heels just ain’t worth it, hating the way they squish your toes, give you bunions and make your feet scream for mercy by the end of the day. Whatever side of the line you fall on, we don’t doubt you’ve heard this rumour before. So today, at House of Peach, we’re going to set the record straight.

So… will wearing high heels really tone my glutes and bum?

The short answer? Yes and no. While high heels might help make your bum look more peachy the reality is they could be doing more damage than good. Wearing heels can put tremendous strain on your joints and affect your posture over time, giving you an arched back and painful knees. Not only that, wearing your heels all day can actually shorten your calves, meaning that while your legs might look longer in your heels, they actually might be stealing a couple of centimetres from the length of your pins – and no one wants that! To keep your glutes as activated as possible throughout the day, it’s best to opt for flat shoes that distribute the weight evenly along your foot, which will help to strengthen all the muscles in your leg (and help to give you that coveted ‘peachy’ bum!).

However, high heels are known to help the bum appear more pert and perky so it’s perfectly fine to wear them on a night out or a short heel for work – that’ll do the trick!

Conclusion

Say it with me: everything in moderation (that includes our beloved heels). But, there’s absolutely no reason to turn your back on your gorgeous red-bottoms just yet. While wearing high heels won’t really tone your glutes and bum, a good pair of heels can give you the confidence to take on the world – and look like a snack while you’re doing it. So, if you love strutting your stuff in 3-inches don’t stop, but make sure you give your body a break every once and a while. And if heels just aren’t your thing? That’s fine, too. You do you girl.
